Gary Lloyd Boldman b.: March 17th, 1932 (Hillsboro, Ohio) d.: July 16th, 2010 (Hamilton, Ohio) Gary Boldman, devoted husband of Donna (Myers) Boldman passed away July 16th after a lengthy illness. Gary and Donna were married for fifty-seven years. He is survived by five children, Loyd Boldman and his wife Carol, Craig Boldman, Scott Boldman and his wife Lisa, Lane Boldman and husband Joey Shadowen, Jill Steward, eight grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren with two more on the way. Gary's parents were Oscar Ellsworth Boldman and Nellie Newbrey Boldman of Highland, Ohio. He had one brother, Albert Floyd Boldman of Casselberry, Florida. Gary and Albert were born seventeen years apart, so by the time Gary was old enough to walk, his big brother Al was a career Air Force Master Sergeant. Gary excelled in a variety of roles during his long, fruitful life. He achieved a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree from Wilmington College, where he met Donna in 1952, and did post-graduate studies at Xavier University, Miami University, The University of Maryland, and the University of Cincinnati. He began his career as an educator in New Vienna, Ohio and Hamilton, Ohio before entering the Army in 1954. Follwing his military service, Gary resumed his career in the Hamilton City School District. He then became Principal of Glendale Elementary School in Glendale, Ohio. Later he became Principal of Princeton Junior High School in Springdale, and then an administrator of the Princeton City School District. Gary was also a Board Member and served as President of the Princeton City School District Credit Union. In all, Gary served the educational community for over forty years. Subsequent to his educational career, Gary became an administrator for College Hill Presbyterian Church. He was also a Board Member during construction of a new YMCA facility in Fairfield. He then joined a nationally recognized facilities management firm, Engineering Excellence, Inc. of Cincinnati, where he worked for over thirty years, first as an advisor, then as an Advisory Board Member and Director until his illness. Gary grew up in Highland, Ohio, a farming community with a population of less than 300. In his teen years, he sang and played upright bass in a country music duo, the "Buckeye Playboys" for local events and radio shows. He attended a Quaker church next door to the Boldman home, and was a leader in the "Young Friends Activities Committee" for many years. He received a scholarship to a Quaker school, Wilmington College, where Gary met his future wife Donna on her second day of attendance. They were married six months later, on New Year's Eve, 1952. Their firstborn, Loyd-spelled with only one L-arrived in 1954, three weeks before Gary was drafted into the Army. His basic training was in San Antonio, Texas. Son Craig was born while Gary was stationed in England as a medic. Recognizing his gift for teaching and administration, the Army utilized Gary as a trainer for other medical personnel. Upon returning from England, Gary was the first teacher in the Hamilton School District to teach developmentally handicapped students. The Boldman Family's third son, Scott was born just as the family moved from Hamilton to a larger home in Fairfield. After three boys, daughter Lane-not E-lane-was born in 1960. The family made one more move in 1963, along with the fifth Boldman sibling, year-old daughter Jill, to a new home built especially for them. Gary was a strong, athletic man with a quick wit and a contagious sense of humor. He loved softball and basketball and played one or the other nearly every Saturday morning. Gary was a tireless worker and always tried to make sure his family and friends were well provided for. Even during his final illness, he spoke about his advance preparation for the family's future, and his desire to return to work as soon as possible.
