Amos M. Esekwen, 61, of Cincinnati, OH, passed away on February 6, 2023 at his home surrounded by family after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife Colette Esekwen, four children: Jemima Esekwen-Kilundu, Mike Esekwen, Dan Esekwen, and Joel Esekwen; as well as his nieces and nephews, grandkids and siblings. Amos was born on May 21, 1961 to the late Pastor Oscar Esekwen and Joyce Haller in the Democratic Republic of Congo and was the eldest of 13 children, two of which he brought to the United States with him, Esther and Jolie Esekwen. After graduating High School from Infra in Kikwiit in 1979, Amos went on to study Economics at The University of Kinshasa. Soon after earning his Bachelor’s degree of Economics from The University of Kinshasa in 1987, Amos started work as an Accountant with the Permanent Accounting Council in Congo (C.P.C.C.) under the Ministry of Finances, at the same time teaching Accountancy at the National Institution of Finance in Kinshasa and working for Full Gospel International as an instructor of the Gospel. Amos married Colette on August, 15, 1992 and enjoyed just over 30 years of marriage. In 2000, he decided to make a huge life change, leaving behind what he knew in Congo, and immigrated to the U.S. alone to give his family more opportunities. Later on in 2003, he had his family join him in Easthampton, Massachusetts where he went on to earn an Associate degree in Accounting from Holyoke Community College the same year. After some time, he settled his family in Cincinnati, Ohio where he went on to earn his degree in Theology from Cincinnati Christian University, which was the kickstart to his 15 year career as a pastor. As a lifelong learner, he often said he would have stayed in school all his life if he could have. He was a devoted Pastor, Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather, and Friend who had a nickname for everyone. He instilled in everyone he knew and met the love of Jesus Christ and the importance of loving your neighbor. He had a sharp memory and told entertaining stories, sometimes with a hint of exaggeration and jokes. Even in his last few days, he spent a lot of time being comical yet wise, a testament to the man he was. Visitation will be on Saturday February 18, 2023 at Restoration Church 7600 Princeton Glendale Rd. Hamilton 45011 from 10:00AM until the time of the funeral at 12:00PM with burial to follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. THE WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME is serving the family.
