Clayton Frederick Hoover, Jr.

Dec. 1, 1943 – May 10, 2024

Clayton Frederick Hoover, Jr., 80, passed away on May 10, 2024, in Fairfield, Ohio, surrounded by his loving family. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton “Bud” Hoover and Geneva “Jo” LeVan Hoover, and his brother, Mark LeVan Hoover. He is survived by his two sisters, Andrea (Lawrence) Tischler and Jeanne (Bill) McFall; his nieces, Stacey (Eric) Eisen, Mindy (Craig) Reed, Amy (Jason) Money, Jacquelyn (Steven) McAndrew and nephew Adam (Zoee) Rottenberg; and nine loving great-nieces and five greatnephews. Fred grew up in Montgomery, Pennsylvania and worked for Schnadig International Furniture his entire career, retiring after many years of dedicated service. He was a hardworking and loyal employee, whose only day of missed work throughout those decades was to attend his father’s funeral. A man of great faith, Fred attended Sunday school at the First United Methodist Church in Montgomery every week, was a committed member of the congregation and cherished reading his Daily Bread each morning. In fact, he relied on his deep devotion to see him through the challenges with his illness until the very end. In 2013, Fred moved to Fairfield, Ohio where he was a treasured resident at The Waterford senior living community. He loved to participate in everything Waterford had to offer, especially Wii Bowling, Bingo, Cornhole, and Bible Study. At the age of 70, he began playing softball in the Therapeutic Recreation League on Friday nights at The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields, quickly becoming a fan favorite. He also enjoyed the simple things in life – game shows (especially Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy!), country and gospel music, playing his organ, and conquering solitaire on the computer. Though Fred was a man of few words, his presence left a lasting impact on the lives of those he encountered. His family extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone who sent cards over the past several months and reached out after his passing to share stories of how he brightened their days, imparted wisdom, or influenced them. It is a profound honor to witness his legacy endure through the many lives he quietly, yet unmistakably, touched. Finding solace in the knowledge that he is now reunited with his Lord and Savior, we cherish the memories he leaves behind. Funeral services will be announced at a later date and held in Montgomery, Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League at nuxhallmiracleleague.org, with 50% of the donations being allocated to the Therapeutic Recreation for the Disabled. THE WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME, Fairfield is serving the family. www.websterfuneralhomes.com
