Clifteen T Withers

Clifteen Withers age 90 passed away Wednesday December 30, 2020. She was born September 9, 1930 in Catawba County, NC to the late Marion Clifton (Rona Roberta Shook) Turbyfill, and earned her Bachelor's in Elementary Education from Lenoir-Rhyne College. She subsequently taught at schools in North Carolina, Virginia, and Ohio. Clifteen is survived by her son Rob (Myke O'Brien) Withers; grandchildren Cayton, Nathan, Hannah, and Mogie Clark; brother/sister-in-law Basil Turbyfill (Betty); sister-in-law Shirley Carrigan Withers; numerous nieces and nephews; the children of her son's friend (David Ball and Anne Ball Robinson); and their spouses, children and grandchildren. They have all brought her great joy over the years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ray Withers; daughter Joanna Withers Clark; brother/sister-in-law (R. McCoy Turbyfill / Nellena Bright Thomas; nephews Ricky Moore and Deron Withers; numerous brothers/sisters-in-law; and her son's friend Richard E. Diane Altman Ball. She earned her Bachelor's in Elementary Education from Lenoir-Rhyne College. She subsequently taught at schools in North Carolina, Virginia, and Ohio. She sought to understand and advocate for people who were in any way different or disadvantaged. As a teacher, she worked to support students from diverse backgrounds. As a foodie, she was adventurous in seeking out new and different cuisines and supporting local restaurants and talked her way into the kitchens of Indian and Eritrean restaurants. A graveside service will be held for close family and friends.
