Today a beautiful soul transitioned from this life to her next destination.
Debra “Debby” Lynn McCrackin nee Platt was a beautiful woman inside and out, but her beauty paled compared to her loving kindness and fierce loyalty.
Debby was the mother to four wildly different children and she loved every ounce of their individuality because they all represented aspects of her: adventurous, talented, kind, hardworking, generous, and funny as shit! Debby was a sister in a large family, one of nine. She was a middle child who always stood out - a true individual.
Debby loved deeply. She loved nature, adored ALL animals, had a talent for gardening and flower cultivation and had an amazing green thumb. She was drawn to the ocean, sunbathing, and being in the outdoors. She also loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with every ounce of her soul. She loved her siblings no matter how much time and distance came between them. She excelled at writing and if you were lucky enough to receive a letter from her, be it a birthday card, a text message, or a snail mail letter, you could feel her love through her words. She was an amazing writer and her wit and intelligence came right through!
Debby loved music! She loved all genres and artists but especially Prince. She went to at least 6 Prince concerts and was always dressed to the nines! In her early years you could see her zipping around in a convertible Mustang. She was always so stylish and effortlessly cool. A true heart-breaker!
Debby was the least bigoted person you’d ever meet. She was proudly a left-leaning Democrat and she always championed the underdog. She was friends with everyone. She once said of her four children: “I have two Black children, and two white children… I’m so lucky!”
The reality is that we were the lucky ones to have her as our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, wife, and friend. We will all see Debby when we see a stunning marigold, or the smell of the salty ocean air, or hear joyous laughter and music. Wherever she is in this plane of existence or another, we all hope she is on a beach somewhere with music in the background surrounded by souls that love her as much as she loved us.
We will see you again, mom.
