Donald N. Craig

September 6, 1930 — December 3, 2018

Donald Craig, 88

Donald Craig passed away peacefully on Monday December 3, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. In his final days, he was especially comforted by the loving kindness of his devoted wife of 28 years, Thelma (Stroud) Craig.

Don was a member of Faith Church and a keen student of the Bible. He particularly enjoyed the weekly Bible Study discussions led by Pastor Jeremy and the opportunity to hear the interpretations and beliefs of others as well as the opportunity to express his own. He was a friend and mentor to his faith community, loved and respected by many.

Don was born in 1930, the middle child of William Henry Craig and Dorothy (Mueller) Craig. He was preceded in death by his older brother William Craig (Ruth), and is survived by his younger sister Frances Kigar (Lowell, deceased).

Don was drafted into the Marines in 1952 during the Korean War. He married Lois Wilson in 1950 and became the proud parents of Connie Craig Cappy (John, deceased) and Doug Craig (Edie). Don and Lois had 4 grandchildren (Erin and Jeff Cappy and Holly and Katie Craig) and were married 39 years before her death in 1989.

Don was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati and was employed by Champion Papers/International for 39 years. During his career as a systems analyst and then in systems management, Don was instrumental in developing and implementing the cutting-edge software used in all aspects of the manufacturing process.

In 1990, Don married Thelma Stroud, who had 2 children, Donald Stroud (Fairy) and Karen Stroud Evans (deceased). From that marriage, Don and Thelma have 2 grandchildren, Dee Evans and Renee Evans Lyttle (deceased), 9 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Don and Thelma enjoyed dancing, traveling, gardening, and entertaining family and friends throughout the summers and holidays. They were devoted to one another and inseparable.

Don was a brilliant man with a kind spirit and a gentle heart. He was respectful and supportive of everyone he knew. His friendship and mentorship will be missed by many, many people. As per Don’s request, no services will be observed. THE WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME 3080 Homeward Way at Rt. 4, Fairfield is serving the family. www.websterfuneralhomes.com
