Donna Jean Adelsperger, age 87, of Mason, Ohio passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024. She was born on September 16, 1936, to the late Harry and Mary Eloise (nee Boner) Adelsperger. Donna is survived by her sisters, Pat (Tom) Nead and Christina (Larry) Montecalvo; her sister-in-law, Barb (the late Chuck) Adelsperger; nieces and nephews, Sheri (Dale) Lutz, Paul (Jenny) Adelsperger, Judi (Howard) McDaniel, Tim (Tina) Nead, Matthew (Diana) Adelsperger, Michael Adelsperger, Meredith (Perry) Waricka, Meghan Leigh, Micah Montecalvo; extended family and friends. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Mary Eloise Adelsperger; brothers William F. Adelsperger and Chuck Adelsperger; and niece Laura Nead. Donna had several passions in life; faith, family, and career. Her faith in God guided her thoughts and actions. Her love and dedication to family was strongly felt and reciprocated. Her determination to serve others found its fulfillment through a beloved career that gave her immense meaning in life. Donna, M Ed, RN, had a rich career, spanning more than 50 years in the field of Labor and Delivery Nursing with a focus on Neonatal Care and Fetal Monitoring. She served as a Nursing Instructor at Bethesda Hospital School of Nursing for many years. She then served as a nursing educator training nurses and residents at various hospitals in the Cincinnati area, including Bethesda North, Good Samaritan, and St. Elizabeth Hospital in northern Kentucky. Additionally, she was a guest speaker and consultant at hospitals throughout Ohio and across the nation. She developed educational courses (and supportive instructional materials) for accreditation in nursing degree programs. But perhaps her greatest passion and area of expertise was Fetal Monitoring. She traveled as an instructor for Hewlett Packard, teaching hospital staff nationally on how to employ fetal monitoring technology. She provided expert witness testimony in court cases involving deliveries with high-risk complications. She spoke at national conventions on women’s health issues and served as contributing author and editor of multiple papers and textbooks on maternity-based topics including fetal monitoring. After receiving the 2004 Ohio-Kentucky AWHONN Professional Service Award, she received the National AWHONN Professional Service Award from the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) in 2005. It is the association’s highest honor—for her commitment, diligence, excellence and unparalleled contributions to the association and to the nursing profession. A scholarship in Donna’s name is being developed by the Clinical Educators of Good Samaritan Hospital in conjunction with the Ohio Regional Chapter of AWHONN. Information on how to donate will be forthcoming. A visitation will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024, beginning at 5:00 PM at THE WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME 3080 Homeward Way, Rt.4 Fairfield, Ohio.
