James Ashley

James “Russell” Ashley age 68 of Middletown passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer on Saturday August 5, 2023. He was born on November 10, 1954 in Middletown, the son of the late Kenneth and Sophia Faye (nee Norman) Ashley. Russell was an avid outdoorsman at heart and loved to hunt and fish and was an award-winning deer hunter. He loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. His grandchildren were the biggest source of joy and happiness in his life. He was a wonderful father and friend who will be sadly missed. He is survived by his loving wife Helen “Punkie” Ashley of 55 years; four children Tammy Turner of Middletown, Clay Ashley of Florida, Ryan Hall of Seven Mile, and Sarah Jones of Middletown; seven grandchildren Samantha Hamilton, David (Leah) Bull, Braylin Hall, Landon Jones, Lilly Hall, Luke Jones, and Elliott Snowden; half-sister Partrice (Bill) Kearns of Middletown; nephew Billy Ashely of Middletown; niece Kimberly Shope of Tennessee as well as many cousins and friends. Russell was also preceded in death by three siblings Kenneth Ashley Jr, Betty Jean Ashley and Carl Ashley; one nephew Joey Ashley. Visitation will be on Wednesday August 16, 2023 at THE WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME 3080 Homeward Way at Rt. 4, Fairfield from 10:00AM until the time of the funeral at 12:00PM with Pastor Chris King and Pastor Rick Kelley officiating.
