In Loving Memory of Joseph Brunner

Joseph Brunner, age 70, of Fairfield, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024. Born on September 1, 1954, in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, to the late John and Mary (Kaufhold) Brunner, Joe lived a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. Joe’s journey began in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, where he attended Lawrenceburg High School and became a celebrated athlete. His accomplishments on the field earned him induction into the Hall of Fame as part of the 1972 Tiger football team’s perfect season—a legacy of teamwork and determination that was exemplified throughout his life. While studying machine trades at Vincennes University, Joe met Ruth, the love of his life. Their marriage in 1977 marked the beginning of a beautiful partnership that spanned nearly five decades. Together, they built a life centered on love, raising two children, Ken and Alicia, and eventually becoming proud grandparents. Joe was a man of many talents and endless creativity. Whether he was sharing his athletic wisdom, devising fun games for his grandchildren, or crafting inventive “fix-it” solutions, his energy and ingenuity left an indelible mark on everyone around him. Known for his radiant smile and playful sense of humor, he had a special way of connecting with his grandkids, whether it was with his signature “don’t steal my chair” game or a simple request for a hug that lit up their hearts. He was deeply admired for his hard work and resourcefulness, which he shared generously with his loved ones. Yet it was his boundless love for Ruth, Ken, Alicia, their spouses and his grandchildren that truly defined him—a legacy of devotion that will be cherished forever. He was truly known as the “Best husband, father, grandpa and father-in-law ever”. Joe’s memory lives on in the hearts of his wife, Ruth Brunner; his children, Ken (Angela) Brunner and Alicia (Patrick) McGuire; and his grandchildren, Aria Brunner, Logan Joseph Brunner, Madeline McGuire, Hailey Jo McGuire, and McKenzie McGuire. He is also survived by his siblings, John (Barb) Brunner, Paul (Tammy) Brunner, Kevin (Deb) Brunner, Dennis Brunner, and Vicki Mathews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Brunner; and in-laws, Kim Brunner and Albert Mathews.

A memorial service honoring Joe’s extraordinary life will be held on Tuesday, December 17, at Sacred Heart Church (400 Nilles Rd) in Fairfield, Ohio. Visitation will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held afterward at Veterans Park – Michael J. Colligan Lodge from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m.
