Major General Ret. Joseph M. Lojek, 92, of Cincinnati, OH, died Monday June 28, 2021, at Traditions of Deerfield Senior Community in Loveland, OH. Born in Ambridge, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph J. and Anna Lojek. He graduated from Ambridge High School in 1947. He was a graduate of Carnegie-Mellon University with Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemical Engineering and Industrial Management.General Lojek retired from the U.S. Army Reserves in December 1984 after 36 years of active and reserve service. He began his military career in 1948 when he enlisted as a private in the U.S. Army. In 1949, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant, Corps of Engineers, upon graduation from Officers Candidate School at the Ground General School, Fort Riley, Kansas. In January 1968, he was assigned to the 99th Army Reserve Command located in Oakdale, Pennsylvania, where he held positions as Director of Materiel Readiness, Assistant Chief of Staff, and Chief of Staff. After taking on various other U.S. Army Reserve assignments between 1977 to 1980, he returned to the 99th ARCOM as its commanding general in December 1980 and held that command until his retirement. General Lojek was a graduate of the Command and General Staff College and a graduate of the Army War College. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster. In civilian life, General Lojek was a Chemical Engineer whose career spanned over 40 years in various engineering and management assignments related to nuclear power operations with DuPont, Westinghouse Electric Corporation, Fluor Daniel, and Modern Technologies.Mary Ann Lojek, his wife of more than 66 years, preceded him in death on July 7, 2020 in Cincinnati, OH.
