Obituary for Sandra Lee Allen

Sandra Lee Allen age 83 of Hamilton crossed the finish line of her life’s journey on Sunday June 7, 2020 at her home with her daughter Tammy and daughter in law Beth. She was born to the late William Franklin and Faye (nee Brauchla) Gross at home during a blizzard on January 26, 1937 in College Corner, IN. She received her RN diploma from Bethesda School of Nursing Cincinnati in 1958 and completed post-graduate studies in Operating Room nursing from the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD in 1959. Sandra dedicated her life in service to others. She worked in hospitals in Colorado, Texas, Florida, and Michigan before returning to Hamilton where she worked in surgery and later in the Purchasing Dept at The Ft Hamilton Hospital. She worked as a fierce advocate for her patients and as a mentor to her colleagues. After she retired from nursing she continued working at her “fun jobs” at Joann Fabrics and Colonial Home Services where she stopped working at the age of 78. When she wasn’t taking care of her children and grandchildren you could find Sandra quilting, sewing, reading, and mowing her lawn. It is difficult to say which activity she loved the most! When the pandemic began Sandra was still sitting at her sewing machine sewing masks for neighbors even though she was battling cancer. She was that kind of caregiver. Sandra is survived by her devoted daughter Tammy (Beth Dietz) Allen; grandchildren Matthew Allen, Andrew (Kayla) Allen, Cody Allen, Amanda Allen, Adam (Lacey) Richardson; four great grandchildren; daughter in law Laurie Allen, wife of the late William Todd Allen and also survived by many more family and friends. She was also preceded in death by two sons William Todd Allen, Timothy Lee Allen and sister Darlene Black. A private service will be held at a later date. Condolences

I met Sandy working in OR at Ft. Ham-Hughes many years ago. Whenever she was in my room it was going to be a good day, no matter what. She was kind and considerate to all, everyone's mama. She was an excellent friend and someone I will remember and miss. She was a true treasure. I am so sorry for your loss, Tammy.

I had the privilege of working with Sandy at Fort Hamilton, she was a very sweet lady, always has a smile on her face, and was an absolute joy to work with. She will truly be missed, the world needs more people like her . May she rest in peace , she has earned that peace by her work she did, in her time on earth.
