Scott Hendrickson age 70 passed away peacefully in his own bed as he wished on Thursday February 13, 2020. He was born in Cincinnati on February 18, 1949 to Wilbur and Ferol (Miller) Hendrickson. He was a graduate of Garfield High School, class of 1967, and spent one year at Miami University before beginning an apprenticeship with IBEW Local 648, following in his father’s footsteps. In 1972 Scott married Susan Webster, and they enjoyed 47 years of marriage. They were blessed with 2 children – Brian (Sherry) Hendrickson of Hamilton and Marcia (Chad) Phillips of Lampe, MO. They have 4 grandchildren – Katie and Morgan Hendrickson of Hamilton, OH and Mason and Olivia Phillips of Lampe, MO. Scott loved his family so much. He was proud of the character of his children and grandchildren and of their many talents and accomplishments. Scott was a man of many talents and interests. He worked as a journeyman electrician for many years, building projects at Miami U and the original construction of Kings Island. In 1983 he accepted a position at Miami U, first as a maintenance electrician, then as a building inspector, and finally in 1988 became a contractor responsible for the maintenance of all the pianos in the Housing and Dining Departments. He learned to tune and repair pianos in the late 1970’s. He saw his piano work as a kind of ministry, charging much less than the going rate for churches and the elderly. When working in a dorm on a piano, he frequently had a student audience and enjoyed explaining his work. Scott was a fine musician. He began playing in Rheinhold Schwarz’s Bavarian Band while still a teenager and took over that band after Rheinhold retired. They played for Octoberfests in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky for many years. He played for 40 years with the Hamilton Concert Band and over 30+ years with the Southwest Ohio Symphonic Band and was active in just about every community band in the Cincinnati area. Sometimes he practiced or played concerts 5 nights a week. Scott loved sports. He played league softball well into his 40’s and loved fishing, ping pong, golf and bowling. He was especially proud of bowling a 299 game! He was a member of several churches over the years – Redeemer UCC, St. Mark’s UMC and most recently West Elkton UMC. Scott had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We know that he is in Heaven now playing The Clarinet Polka and singing in the choir. Scott leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife Susan; children and their spouses; grandchildren; brother Dan (Pam) Hendrickson; special cousin Don (Lu) Neubrander; faithful friend Sue Combs and other relatives and many friends. We will be forever grateful to Drs. Manish and Rohini Sachdeva for years of skilled and loving care, Sean Hartman (PT) who became a very good friend, and to Fort Hamilton Hospital where Scott had received exceptional care in every department. In lieu of flowers please donate to the West Elkton UMC – Main Street West Elkton, OH 45070 or the charity of your choice.
