Verna Jane L. Fields age 82 of Fairfield, Ohio passed away peacefully Sunday January 23, 2022. She was born July 6, 1939 in Crawford, Tennessee the daughter of the late Thomas Ezra Wilson and Lola Mae Randolph Wilson. She attended Rickman High School and graduated in 1958. She married her sweetheart Leonard Gray Fields on September 24, 1960. She was a member of Landmark Baptist Temple where she helped run a bus route alongside her husband Leonard. In her later life she was a member of Fairfield West Baptist Church for many many years. Known as “Jane” by friends and family, she was known to be a fine Christian lady and shared her love of the Lord with all she knew. Even as her health and memory failed her, the Lord’s name was upon her lips without fail. Talking to Jesus and praying for her loved ones unceasingly, will be her legacy to all those who loved her. Jane had a special gift with babies and young children, just as her mother had and worked as a daycare worker while she raised her own family. Later in life she upgraded her nurturing talents to being an excellent caregiver to the elderly until she retired in 2012. She was granted the National Caregiver of the Year award from Home Instead in 2006. Her greatest titles in life were “Grandma and GG” as she often referred to them as “grandmas little darlins”; her joy was boundless when she held them in her arms. “I am blessed, so very blessed” was often declared. Yes, even in some of her darkest hours she knew she was blessed and once wrote” Lord you’ve parted the waters of hopelessness for me, so many times when I was drowning it seemed, Lord you have proven over and over your promises you will keep”. She never lost sight of her Lord and said “Jesus is my sweet and gentle shepherd, He will never leave me” a testament to her faith and her ability to stand in the storms of life with unfailing faith, grace and strength. She is preceded in death by her parents, dear son Daniel Gray Fields (1974), cherished husband Leonard (1986) and many beloved aunts whom she called “2nd mothers” to her. Mrs. Fields is survived by her remaining children, daughter Tammy (Stan) Looper and their son Jeremy, daughter Sandra (Robert) Campbell and their children daughter Jamie and son Gary, daughter Starla Fields, daughter Joy (Lou Jr) Schuler and their children Nick, Kara, Jerad, Molli, and Amber, daughter Eleasha Fields, and many great grandchildren; adoring cousins and dear friends.
