Wilmarie Hayslett

Wilmarie Phelps Hayslett passed away at noon on Sunday September 22, 2024 at the age of 96. She left this world peacefully in her home with her devoted husband Don Hayslett at her side. Wilma was born on July 13, 1928 in Hamilton, Ohio to parents Robert and Nan Phelps. She attended Hamilton High School and graduated in 1946. She had a long career as an executive secretary: first at Bendix, then Champion Papers, finally retiring in 1985 after 16 years at Avon Products where she published the Avon Newsletter. Wilma was married in 1949 to Robert Gfroerer and had three children: Michael Paul (Leeanne) Gfroerer, Wendy Kay (the late John) Hicks and Kelly Jo, who tragically passed away at age six in 1973. She is also survived by her brother Robbie Phelps and sister Donna Beer. She also has four grandsons: Dustin (Sarah) Hicks, Adam Hicks, Carter Hicks and Alexander Gfroerer; two great grandsons James and Jack Hicks; step children Daniel W. (Candy) Hayslett and Randy Hayslett; step grandchildren Daniel (Elyn) Hayslett, II and Jason (Cristy) Hayslett; and step great grandchildren Daniel, III and Dominic. Wilma was also preceded in death by her siblings Paul Phelps and Alma Lamb. Wilmarie possessed an adventurous free spirit full of love, courage, humor, and wonder. She was admired and respected by the hundreds of people who had the good fortune to know her. Wilma will be forever loved and missed by all of us. Visitation 5-8 PM Monday at THE WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME 3080 Homeward Way at Rt. 4, Fairfield. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday October 1, 2024 at the funeral home.
